Hayride Slaughter (2001)

AW.A.V.E. production starring Tina Krause and the usual gang. This one centers around a haunted hayride and haunted house attraction where murders have been taking place.

A woman has been milling about this haunted attraction for seemingly hours for some reason. She suddenly finds herself being followed.

The killer wearing a druid type outfit knocks her out, then pulls out a dagger. Her shirt is ripped openand we're later told a pentagram was carved on her chest.

Desire Varga (Tina Krause) is a psychic and into witchcraft. She treats her assistant Clifford James (Jim O'Rear) like shit.

Desire and Cliff are hired to help the owner of Frightland investigate the murder using her psychic powers. They will also serve as an attraction (a magic act) for folks waiting in line. They're introduced to the Frightland crew.

Jason Combs (Aven Warren) owns Frightland. Frank Ames, who owns a percentage of the business, wants to sell. But Combs says he's invested too much of his life in this place to sell now.

Joe Peale (Dean Paul) is the local detective tasked with finding who killed that girl. His work is getting in the way of his relationship with Julie.

Desire is shown around the haunted attraction by a worker named Erica Phillips (Debbie D).

Jolene (Barbara Joyce) and Jeff work at Frightland. They take some time out to fool around using some of the props in the haunted house.

Jolene is tied to the wood frame.

The crew prepares for Frightland's opening night.

Desire and Cliff are going to entertain the crowds waiting in line with their magic act.

We watch their performance in its intirety - like a full ten minutes of this magic act.

Julie feels their relationship is taking a backseat to the murder investigation.

Jolene gets the hayride ready for Frightland's second night. She's attacked by someone hiding in the hay.

Jolene is knocked out and carried into one of the rooms at the haunted attraction.

The killer approaches, rips her shirt open and carves a pentagram on her chest.

Desire is staying at a cheap motel. That evening she hears a knock at the door.

It's Joe, here to discuss the case. Turns out, they were once in a relationship.

After a long discussion, they start getting playful.

We presume they have had sex. Desire gets out of bed.

Combs is murdered, and now Desire is called to the haunted attraction. But it's a trap. She nervously pulls out her revolver.

The killer is Cliff.

Desire is knocked out and put on a sacrificial altar.

Cliff uses his dagger to cut off her dress.

With Desire still unconscious, Cliff cuts off her pantyhose with his dagger.

Desire wakes up and struggles to break free. Cliff says he wants to sacrifice her to some demon for special powers.

Cliff has an accomplice - Erica Phillips, the Frightland worker we met earlier.

Cliff and Erica begin the ritual and a demon appears at the foot of the altar.

Joe storms in and saves the day. He disrupts the ritual - which somehow causes Erica to be on the altar instead of Desire.

Erica finds herself naked in another dimension - hell perhaps. THE END

VZ6 SCORECARD

THE BAD - Perhaps the most egregious issue is that we actually have to watch Cliff and Desire perform a full magic act.  Jim O'Rear must really do this for parties or something - not that he's good, but you can tell it's a shtick he's done.  This goes on forever - perhaps a quarter of the film (or at least it felt like it).  Almost as bad is the banter between Joe and Desire - it goes on and on and is just insufferably boring.

THE GOOD - I think it was a great idea to set the film at Frightland. It is an actual haunted attraction in Middletown, DE.  It's still in operation and based on the website it definitely looks like it's improved since this film was made.  Add to that, some nice nudity from Debbie D, Barbara Joyce and of course Tina Krause.

Tina Krause provides some great nudity - tied up naked on the satanic altar, and full frontal in the motel room. Unfortunately, you do have to wade through a lot of boring stuff to get to these scenes, but it's worth it.

☆☆☆☆☆ 5/10
