Mujeres Infieles II (2003) - Un hombre poderoso

An anthology consisting of three outlandish stories. This round we'll look at the first story. It involves a husband and wife whose marriage is getting torn apart by his seething jealousy. What solves it and makes them happy again? (spoiler) Her becoming paraplegic.

Story #1: Un hombre poderoso / A powerful man

Jorge (Alejandro Camacho) presents his Adriana (Gabriela Olmedo) with an expensive pair of earrings.

But then Jorge ruins the romantic moment. He notices Adriana is subtly flirting with a guy playing pool. Jorge loses his shit. He violently grabs Adriana and throws her to the side.

Enraged with jealousy, Jorge points a gun at the man.

But then we see this was all just a movie. Jorge and Adriana are really husband and wife, but they're both actors. Adriana meets with Benjamin (Mauricio Garcia) the director after the scene is complete.

At dinner Adriana is flirty Benjamin - so the movie scene wasn't exactly pure fiction.

Adriana takes a bath.

While Jorge pours drinks in the other room, Adriana towels off and gets ready.

A really long scene.

Adriana reads from the script and practices her lines. Jorge isn't interested in practicing.

Jorge is a bit tipsy and wants to fool around, but Adriana pushes him away.

Adriana meets with Roberto (Raúl Magaña) her side lover. But again - it takes a few minutes to realize this is again for the movie and not real life.

Jorge arrives home and inspects the wine glasses, realizing there's been someone here. Again he becomes abusive with jealous rage.

Benjamin and Adriana review the footage.

The two flirt around and it leads to passion. But they are interrupted.

Jorge is bedridden; Adriana is anything but caring and supportive. Indeed we find that she only married him to get ahead in her career.

Adriana has sex with Benjamin.

Jorge confronts Benjamin out in public. This is embarassing to Adriana and she gets upset with him.

Adriana is back to having sex with Benjamin.

Adriana confronts Jorge - and now it's her turn to get violent. She stabs him in the face with a pencil!

After yet another fight, Jorge throws Adriana out a window.

Adriana is paralyzed for life and now earns her living writing instead of acting. But we find that this is exactly what their marriage needed - and the two are madly in love once again. Now that Jorge doesn't get jealous of his paraplegic wife, it's all good.

VZ6 SCORECARD

I didn't love the constant stylized back and forth between reality and movie; the gimmick suits a vignette well - versus a full length movie. However even in this abridged format it still gets old. That being said, it was still well done and a rather original way to tell an otherwise stale story.  Of course, the highlight and reason to watch is the lead actress.

Gabriela Olmedo only acted in this one movie. She was a producer on three films, including an animated children's film Otra película de huevos y un pollo (2009). How does something like that come about? Olmedo provides graphic full frontal nudity and then never acts again - but does produce a kid's movie. What is the backstory here?

We'll cover the next story in this anthology soon.

☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ 7/10
