(AKA Blood Orgy) When a serial killer methodically slaughters the dancers at a go-go club, a young reporter teams up with an obnoxious private eye to crack the case.
A stripper named Suzie Cream Puff (Jackie Kroeger) is murdered.
Private investigator, Abraham Gentry (Frank Kress) reads about it in the papers.
Nancy Weston (Amy Farrell), a newspaper reporter, offers him twenty-five thousand dollars to effectuate the capture of poor Cream Puff's murderer.
Nancy gives Gentry five hundred up front. He takes it then rudely shoos her out with his cane.
A seedy strip club where a stripper (Corlee Bew) waves her tassles.
Gentry is there and speaks with the stripper to get clues on Cream Puff's murder.
Gentry follows a lead pointing to a certain Joseph Carter who was taking up residence with a girl named Candy Cane.
Candy admires herself in front of a mirror.
Her throat is cut as she's chewing gum and blowing a bubble.
Following the cluse, Nancy and Gentry show up at Candy Cane's residence.
Nancy enters first
She sees Candy dead at the bottom of the stairs. She screams and faints.
Gentry rudely pours a can of 7-UP on Nancy to wake her up.
Nancy sits uncomfortably on the stairs as Gentry calls the police.
Gentry allows Nancy to come along as he goes to the next strip club.
As Gentry wanders around gathering clues, Nancy gets drunker and drunker.
Lola Prize (Nora Alexis) performs onstage but her act striptease is interrupted by a women's lib mob.
Gentry helps Lola evade the violent chaos. Then he comes back for Nancy who is blackout drunk. He helps her to the street where she passes out on the sidewalk.
Gentry hails a cab and guides the driver to Nancy. He pulls the purse off her arm and grabs her money. He tells the cabbie to take her home.
Gentry takes Lola to her place.
When Lola finds out he's a world famous private eye, she gets flirty. She's disappointed he won't even stay for coffee.
After Gentry leaves, Lola gets undressed and goes to the fridge for a cucumber. She's startled by an intruder who murders her with a meat tenderizer.
Gentry and Nancy are at the crime scene. Gentry finds a piece of critical evidence.
Elsewhere, a girl (Marina Salli) is ironing her clothes.
Her throat is slashed and a hot iron applied to her face.
After going to that crime scene, Gentry and Nancy relax at a restaurant. Gentry has a plan to use Nancy as bait to catch the killer. He invites her to go out with him tonight and tells her to wear something sexy.
Gentry picks her up at eight. Nancy wears a short white dress for the occasion.
He takes her to a club where they're having an amateur strip contest, hosted by Henny Youngman.
Brash waitress Marlene (Hedda Lubin) hates Gentry. At one point Henny has to hold her back from punching him in the face.
Nancy gets drunk once again. As she gets further plastered, she becomes jealous of Gentry's interest in the women on stage.
Nancy's jealousy gets the better of her as she stumbles onstage and drunkenly takes all her clothes off (not shown in the film). She wins first prize.
Gentry takes Nancy home where she collapses on the sofa. She is wearing panty hose with no panties.
Gentry lets Nancy pass out and he leaves the room - knowing he's setting a trap for the killer.
As she sleeps, someone approaches her with a vial of acid (made in Poland).
Nancy wakes up and springs on top of the couch - providing clear full frontal nudity (despite wearing pantyhose).
But she slips and falls face first onto the coffee table, knocked out.
The killer is Marlene the waitress. Gentry confronts her. Marlene jumps out the window, and is subsequently run over by a car.
Still unconscious. Nancy is pulled up by the hair. Gentry revives her, calls the police and explains Marlene's backstory. THE END
VZ6 SCORECARD
You can spot an HG Lewis film a mile away - they all have a certain vibe. The gore is gratuitous and over-the-top bad and there is a, dare I say it, "playful" mojo to the whole thing. Not a fun energy, but rather a campy cheese that lightens the mood, avoiding things from getting too dark and grim. The character of Abraham Gentry (Frank Kress) is a perfect example. He is spectacularly corny; there is simply no way to take things seriously with a cartoon as your lead actor. And I love it.
But the real MVP, the hero of this film is an actress by the name of Amy Farrell.
Amy Farrell goes all-in with this film - acting completely hammered several times, fainting, getting knocked out, having a can of 7-Up poured on her, and just completely owns this film. Farrell was only in two films - this and Airport 75. She was only active for a couple years - from '72 to '74. She acted in a few TV shows - Streets of San Francisco, Search and A Touch of Grace. And that was it. A shame.
Farrell wears a flowing minidress that is more like a short bathrobe in the last quarter of the film. As we'll see later, the real treat here is that she is wearing nothing underneath aside from a pantyhose (no underwear). Farrell takes it off on stage - but there is no nudity shown. In fact, Farrell provides no nudity in this film other than the insane (and possibly unintentional) views on the couch in this dress.
Farrell is blackout drunk on the couch and the camera lears at one of the greatest upskirts of all time. She's clearly not wearing panties. When she jumps up, awakened by the killer, you can see her bush quite clearly. Why do I think this is unintentional? I mean, she obviously knew she wasn't wearing underwear, but I wonder if she knew how well this would get filmed. Amy Farrell never provides direct nudity in this film, nor any of her other works. So, it strikes me as perhaps being a happy accident.
Also in this same scene, we get a couple looks at Farrell's backside. Initially when she falls down drunk on the couch, Gentry saddles over and covers her up (another clue that perhaps this revealing scene was unintentional). Later, when Farrell is awaken by the killer, she stands up and falls onto the coffee table. She's knocked out and her dress is hiked up over her backside. [YouTube]
Amy Farrell spends a lot of this film passed out. She gets drunk and passes out on the sidewalk. She faints at a crime scene (when Gentry pours the 7-Up on her), and she has the long aforementioned scene in the white dress where she passes out on the couch only to be woken up and faceplant on the coffee table, getting KO'd again. Truly a hall of fame KO peformance from Farrell. [YouTube]
Yes there are other ladies in this film showing a lot more skin, but Farrelll gets the blue ribbon by far. Perhpas this isn't HG Lewis' number one film, but I'd rank among the best. It's campy vibe along with the cheesy gore and Farrell's knock out performance (you see what I did there), make for a total banger.
